Privacy Policy

What CHOPA collects, why, and what you can do about it. No ads, no third-party trackers, no data sold on.

In short

CHOPA collects the bare minimum needed to run the game: your animal photos, your username, your progress and — if you allow it — where you snag each animal. Your username, your avatar and your counters are visible to other players. No advertising, no ad tracking, no data sold on.

Data we collect

The photos you take inside the app (never your gallery), your username, your game progress (snags, XP, levels, streaks, badges), your email address if you link an account (through an email sign-in code or through Google), and the content reports you send. We never collect your date of birth. You can also tell us, if you want to, how you heard about the app.

Location

If you accept the permission request, CHOPA records the coordinates of the place where each animal is snagged. They serve two purposes: putting your snags on your personal map, and matching rarities and seasons to your country. Your position is only read at the moment of a snag, never in the background and never while the app is closed. You can refuse: the game works exactly the same, your snags simply will not appear on the map. The permission can be withdrawn at any time in your phone settings, and your coordinates are included in the export and in the deletion of your data.

What we don’t collect

No tracking of your movements outside of snags. No advertising identifier, no advertising SDK, no tracking of what you do in other apps or on other websites. Your data is neither sold nor shared for targeting purposes.

What other players see about you

CHOPA lets you add friends and compare your collections. Three things about you are therefore visible to another player who knows your exact username: your username, your avatar, and your game counters (how many species you have snagged, how many gems, your streaks — current and best —, your level and your title). This visibility does not depend on a friendship: it applies as soon as someone types your username. Search needs the EXACT username; there is no directory and no suggestion. Invisible in all circumstances: your photos, where you snag, your email address, and WHICH species you have snagged — only how many. Becoming friends takes both people agreeing. You can block a player at any time: they will no longer be able to send you a request and your profile becomes unreachable for them, without them being told. Changing your username in your profile is enough to make you unfindable under the old one.

Usage measurement

To see where the game trips people up, CHOPA measures how the app is used: screens viewed, sign-up steps completed, snags that succeeded or failed. This measurement goes through PostHog, hosted in Europe. It carries no personal data — not your username, not your email, not your photos, not the coordinates of your snags — and uses neither advertising nor IP-based geolocation. Your account is represented there by its technical identifier alone. You can switch it off at any time in Settings → Preferences → Usage stats.

How photos are used

Every photo taken is analysed automatically for two purposes: moderation (rejecting inappropriate content before any storage) and identifying the species. This analysis is carried out by the Claude AI model (Anthropic), in the United States: this transfer is covered by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. Anthropic keeps the analysed photos for 30 days at most — longer only if its safety systems detect abusive content in them — and never uses them to train its models. Accepted photos are then stored to feed your collection.

Chopa+ subscription

If you take out Chopa+, the payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google: CHOPA never sees your card number or your bank details. We only receive the state of your subscription (active or not, which plan), attached to the technical identifier of your account, through our provider RevenueCat. That state is used to unlock the Chopa+ features and nothing else.

Android waiting list

On our website, you can leave your email address to be told when CHOPA comes out on Android. That address is used for nothing else: a single message, on release day, then the list is deleted within the following month. It is hosted at Supabase, in the European Union, and is neither shared nor matched against a game account. To be taken off it before release, write to us at ggpcontentprod@gmail.com To limit abuse, the server keeps a hashed fingerprint of the sending IP address for one hour, never the address itself.

Processors

Supabase (database and authentication), Cloudflare (delivery and storage of the photos), Anthropic (AI analysis of the photos, United States), RevenueCat (subscription state), Expo (delivery of app updates), PostHog (usage measurement, hosted in Europe). These providers process the data on our behalf and are not allowed to use it for their own purposes.

Retention

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. Deleting your account (Settings → Account → Delete my account) immediately and permanently erases your photos, snags, progress and account.

Your rights (GDPR and UK GDPR)

Access and portability: export all your data as JSON from Settings. Rectification: change your username from your profile. Erasure: delete your account from Settings. You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL (cnil.fr), the French data protection authority.

Minimum age

CHOPA is for people aged 15 and over — the age of digital consent in France. This rule is set out in the terms of use and in the age rating of the app stores; the app asks you for neither your date of birth nor any proof.
